Shanghai Bell Gained Laos' Largest Telecom Project

Shanghai Bell Co., a Sino-Belgian telecom joint venture based in Shanghai, won a US$30 million contract to renovate Laos' national telecom network.

It is the largest telecommunications renovation program ever in Laos, and it is also the largest export ever of electronic equipment by China to Laos, a local source said.

After the project is completed, Shanghai Bell will hold over half of Laos' market in terms of telecom exchange equipment.

The joint venture is a company on the rise with self-owned intellectual property that are at advanced international levels. It was the first Chinese telecom enterprise doing exports.

The international business has become stable growth force for the company. It made substantial business progress in Bangladesh last year. Its software and hardware have been sold in Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

The company has set up 10 branches overseas to tap into the international market.
