Guangdong to Choose Senior Officials Through Open Competition

Decision makers in Guangdong, which neighbors Hong Kong, and is one of China's most economically developed provinces, recently decided to choose 14 senior officials through open competition.

These positions needed to be filled through an open competition to include vice-director of the general office of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, vice-director of the provincial Economic and Trade Commission, vice-director of the provincial Industry and Commerce Administration, vice-director of the provincial Foreign Affairs Office and many others.

In the past officials were usually appointed by their superiors, but now, in order to strengthen the reform of official promotion system, a number of provinces in China began to try the open competition method.

According to the conditions given by the provincial government, candidates of the open competition must be above the college graduate level, below 42 and already have some experiences in certain leading positions.

The competition will be held on December 23 and the result will be made public shortly.
