China to Have Soccer Lottery Predictably in 2001
"Practical plans are still under discussion: Soccer lottery is predictably to be launched in 2001", said Zhang Jilong, vice-chairman of Chinese Football Association in Chengdu on Nov. 15.
Currently, according to related state regulations, all lottery buying and selling in China are still being put wholly under the control of the Ministry of Finance. Soccer lottery to be projected, as part of the effort for lottery launching, must first be subjected for approval by the Ministry of Finance.
Though Zhang Jilong predicts soccer lottery is to be issued in China in the coming year and practical measures are being worked out, Xie Jinda, director of the Sports Lottery Management Center of Sichuan Province, gives no such an optimistic view like Zhang's. He said that "we are doing our bit to see that soccer lottery undertaking be approved by the Ministry of Finance. But currently we have to say that soccer lottery launching is still in the phase of discussion."
