China's First Nongovernmental Natural Preserving Station Set Up

A new natural preserving station was set up recently in the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as "roof of the world", in an effort to better protect the ecosystem headstream area of the Yangtze River and the Hoh Xil natural reserve.

According to the Green Rivers, a nongovernmental green organization and the sponsor of the new natural preserving station, this is the first of its kind in China so far.

"We named the state after Gysang Soinandaje in order to show our respect for this natural protection hero," said Yang Xin, chairman of the Green Rivers.

Gysang Soinandaje was a local government official in Hoh Xil, who was killed as a result of his actions to prevent illegal wild life hunters in 1994.

According to Yang, the office building of the new station is 4,500 meters above sea level, equipped with a 28-meter-high watchtower, solar and wind-power electricity generating and heat supply systems as well as prowl cars, satellite phones and computers.

"This is our first natural preserving station, we plan to build two more stations in the headstream area of the Yangtze River," Yang said.
