Sudanese President Meets Chinese Vice PremierSudanese President Omar Hassan el-Bashir met Wednesday in Khartoum with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo, who conveyed him greetings from Chinese President Jiang Zemin.Wu said that the Sudanese government did its utmost to maintain national unity, develop economy, boost national reconciliation, raise people's living standards and has achieved major successes. He praised the close cooperation between China and Sudan, both developing countries, and Sudan's position on the issue of Taiwan and its adherence to the "One China" policy. Wu expressed China's willingness to work together with Sudan to enable it to cope with the new global political and economic developments. Cooperative ties between the two sides have been fruitful in all fields, especially in the oil industry, he said, adding that China will further expand comprehensive cooperation with Sudan in the future. Welcoming Wu's visit, el-Bashir hailed the steady development of diplomatic ties between the two nations. The Sudanese people still remember the visit paid by late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai to Sudan in the 1960s, he said. El-Bashir reaffirmed the Sudanese government's support to the "One China" policy. Sudan is willing to boost close relations with China in all fields, he added. Wu arrived here Tuesday evening on a three-day official visit to Sudan. He had held talks with Sudan's First Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha earlier in the day.
