South China Province to Build Photon Valley
South China's Guangdong Province is planning to build a world-level photon valley around its capital, Guangzhou, in five to ten years.
A provincial government official said here Wednesday that Guangdong will turn the electro-optic industry in the valley into a pillar industry for the province, a major manufacturing center of the electro-optic industry in the world, and an international center for research and personnel training in the sector.
The concept of the valley was first put forward last year by foreign advisers to the governor of Guangdong, and 13 enterprises have since registered in the development zone and science city of Guangzhou to develop electro-optic industry, with investment totaling more than 200 million US dollars.
The official said that Guangdong has listed the valley in its Tenth Five-Year Plan and will issue a series of preferential policies to boost the development of the electro-optic industry.
