Structural Reform Crucial to Functionary-related Crimes: Official

A senior Chinese official Wednesday called for deepened structural reform and a more effective supervision system, in a bid to eliminate corruption and create a better social environment for China's modernization drive.

Luo Gan, secretary of the Central Political Science and Law Committee under the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said here today that departments concerned should make greater efforts as anti-corruption is a matter of life and death for both the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the state.

The remark came at the opening ceremony of a three-day conference on the prevention of functionary-related crimes, sponsored by the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

The secretary urged China's procuratorial organizations to submit more applicable anti-corruption measures and help establish a preventive network so that functionary-related crimes could be brought under control.

Han Zhubin, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, also made an address at the conference, advising procurators nationwide to devote more energy into their work and improve their professional capabilities.
