HK, South Korea Hold Customs Cooperation Conference in HKA Hong Kong customs officer Wednesday urged customs administrations around the world to step up cooperation and get adapted to the dramatic change in demand for customs services.John Tsang Chun-wah, commissioner of customs and excise of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said demands for customs services around the world have changed dramatically because of an increase in the volume of international trade and the rapid development of technology. In order to meet these demands, customs administrations have to step up their cooperation in modernizing customs practices, simplifying procedures and requirements, employing new technologies and enhancing intelligence collection, Tsang told the 21st Customs Cooperation Conference between the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong. The objective of the annual conference was to review and look for ways to enhance mutual cooperation. The two customs administrations established their cooperative relations in 1980. The two administrations agreed to work closely together to promote in the region the concept of multilateral cooperation in combating customs frauds and other transnational crimes. Both sides agreed to build on the long-standing relationship of mutual trust and cooperation between them so as to meet the challenges ahead. Commissioner of South Korean Customs Service Kim Ho-shik led a six-member delegation to attend the conference held in Hong Kong Tuesday and Wednesday. |
