Qinghai Launches Raid on Brine Shrimp CatchNorthwest China's Qinghai Province sent three inspection teams to Hoh Xil Nature Preserve this week to curb rampant catching of brine shrimps and other rare species.The preserve, located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is home to more than 20 rare species under state protection, including Yak and Tibetan antelope. According to local reports, more than 12,000 people in Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet have come to Hoh Xil since last April to catch brine shrimps and sell them at a price of 600,000 yuan per ton. To date, rangers at the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve have seized 2,954 people who have been catching brine shrimp and confiscated 491 motor vehicles and a great amount of brine shrimps. The raids will continue. |
