China-South Korea Ties Show Good Development Momentum, Jiang

President Jiang Zemin said November 15 in Bandar Seri Begawan that the relations between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) show a good development momentum.

In his meeting with ROK President Kim Dae-Jung here, Jiang noted that Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's recent visit to ROK was successful and the two countries should make active efforts to further enhance their comprehensive cooperation.

Kim told Jiang that the two sides should make utmost efforts to implement the agreements inked during Zhu's ROK tour.

Both Jiang and Kim are here to attend the 8th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) informal leadership meeting, scheduled to open Thursday.

On the cooperation between China and ROK within APEC, Jiang said China attaches importance to the role of APEC and is ready to closely cooperate with other APEC members, including ROK, for the success of the current meeting.

China is to host the APEC 2001 informal leadership meeting and other related events. Jiang said preparations are being made by relevant departments in China.

ROK has experience in hosting major international conventions and China is ready to learn from ROK, Jiang said.

Kim said he anticipates to attend the 2001 Shanghai APEC meeting and see the remarkable changes in this economic powerhouse in China.
