Old Chinese Industrial Base Taps Russian Market

A Sino-Russia trade fair opened Wednesday in Shenyang, the capital city of northeast China's Liaoning Province, and an old industrial base.

Over 40 economic and trade cooperation groups from Moscow, Siberia, Vladivostok and other regions in Russia are attending the four-day fair, which is jointly organized by the Shenyang association for the promotion of international trade and the federation of industry and commerce in Primorskiy Kray, Russia.

Shenyang enterprises will hold commodity fairs to show clothes, art work, Christmas gifts and other types of merchandise to Russian enterprises.

Other activities happening during the fair include information exchange meetings and business seminars.

The Sino-Russian trade volume reached US3.56 billion last year, 10 percent of Russia's total foreign trade volume, statistics show.

China's commodity exports to Russia in the first half of the year grew 70 percent compared with the same period of last year.

Chinese experts have pointed out that Sino-Russian trade may enter a new era, and it is expected that Shenyang will play a more important role in bilateral trade because it is a key foreign trade city in northeastern China.
