China, Samoa Expect to Enhance Cooperation

China and Samoa see great potential for trade and economic cooperation and wish to enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors.

In a meeting with Samoan Minister of Public Works Matataualiitia Afa Lesa and a delegation he led here Wednesday, Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi said China and Samoa have maintained friendly relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties 25 years ago.

Wu said she hoped China and Samoa will increase cooperation in diverse sectors, including trade, investment and labor services.

Wu expressed appreciation for Samoa's adherence to the One-China policy.

She also briefed the guests on China's reform, opening up and economic construction.

Lesa said the Samoan Government and people are grateful to the Chinese Government for its support over the years. He said Samoa is particularly interested in China's reforms in labor and social security systems, and wishes to increase cooperation with China in the economic and other fields.

Lesa and his party arrived here Monday as guests of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).
