Chinese Lawyer Millennium Conference on WTO Challenges

Nearly 1000 lawyers across the nation will gather November 19 in Beijing to discuss opportunities and challenges in the new millennium and on China's impending accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The "Chinese Lawyer Millennium Conference" will be covered live on-line at the website "Chinese Lawyers" at www.chineselawyers.com.cn, which was officially launched today.

Top judiciary officials and renowned scholars will be invited to the conference to give speeches on China's legal establishment reform and what Chinese lawyers will face in the post-WTO era.

Specialized panels will be held for the first time in the meeting on civil laws, intellectual property, criminal laws, e-Commerce, telecommunications, and real estate laws.

A 20,000-character report on China's legal profession in the past two decades will be published, which will also provide guidelines for further development of the industry.

Lawyers from Hong Kong and Taiwan will be invited for the first time for such meetings, as well as lawyers from foreign law firms stationed in China to focus on Chinese domestic laws.
