China's Leading Copper Producer Aiming High

China's largest copper producer, the Jiangxi Copper Company (JCC), is considering raising its annual copper output to 500,000 tons by 2010.

Company president He Changming said JCC is expected to become the world's fifth biggest copper manufacturer by then.

The company, established 22 years ago in east China's Jiangxi Province, currently produces 200,000 tons of copper annually, ranking the 13th place in the world.

More than 3.44 billion yuan has been used to upgrade the company's production lines over the last five years.

Electrolyte copper produced by JCC has been traded on the London Metal Exchange since 1996.

The company went public both in London and Hong Kong in 1997.
