Nigeria to Deploy Patrol Team on Border Between Guinea and Liberia

The Nigerian government is to deploy a patrol team along the border between Liberia and Guinea to help stop incessant border attacks between the two neighboring countries, the News Agency of Nigeria reported on Tuesday.

The planned deployment is part of Nigeria's contribution to the restoration of peace and stability between the two countries, a Nigerian official was quoted as saying in the capital Abuja.

Liberia and Guinea have been lately trading accusations against each other for supporting armed dissidents of the other side to launch border attacks.

Liberian President Charles Taylor also charged Guinea of attempting to destabilize his country through military infiltration in its northern border areas.

Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States have tried to ease the increasingly tense relations between the two countries but in vain.
