Clinton Leaves for Asia Trip

US President Bill Clinton left Washington on Monday for a week-long trip to Asia, which will take him to Brunei and Vietnam.

Clinton will arrive in Brunei late Tuesday to attend the Eighth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Informal Meeting scheduled for November 15-16.

The US president is expected to hold sideline meetings with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori.

After the APEC meeting, he will fly to Hanoi on Thursday to begin a three-day historic visit to Vietnam.

While in Vietnam, Clinton will meet Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.
