Li Peng Makes a Study Tour of the Three Gorges
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said the Three Gorges Hydraulic Project, the world's largest of its kind, should also be the best built.
The project should be well built to look for ways of developing the country's hydraulic power industry by using modern management.
The top legislator made the remarks during his study tour of Yichang, November 11-13, in central Hubei Province, where the mammoth dam is being built.
In his talks with officials in charge of the project, Li praised them for making progress as planned. He attributed the achievements to the adoption of modern systems of management and supervision, which has ensured the quality of the project.

The Three Gorges Project has attracted attention of the whole world and the constructors should try to get over all difficulties to build it into a world-class project, he said.
He also urged local governments of different levels to attach great importance to the issue of resettling local residents affected by the dam project.
During his stay, Li also met four foreign experts and thanked them for their participation in the project.
