Chinese Director to Judge at Cairo Int'l Film Festival

Song Jiangbo, a Chinese director, who recently directed the film featuring the friendship between late Chinese leader Mao Zedong and American journalist, Edgar Snow, was invited to be a judge at the Cairo International Film Festival.

Song took the honor, not for himself, but in recognition of the Chinese film industry and filmmakers.

Song said that Chinese movies have been awarded with international prizes during the past few years. But the absence of judges from China was a pity of these international film festivals.

He promised to work hard together with other judges and justly appraise the best movies of the year.

The 24th Cairo International Film Festival opened last Tuesday in Egypt and will last until November 19.

Some 121 films representing 48 countries are vying for the festival's Golden Pyramid prize.
