Palestinian Teenager Killed at Erez Checkpoint

A Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli soldiers November 12 during clashes at the Erez checkpoint between Israel and the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian sources.

Meanwhile, eye witnesses said an explosive device went off near a bus carrying some Israeli soldiers at a Jewish settlement in southern Gaza, yet no casualties were reported.

The shootout between Israeli troops and armed Palestinians is still going on at different locations in the Gaza Strip, the sources added.

Israeli troops on Sunday afternoon shelled several Palestinian targets in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, wounding seven Palestinians and damaging several buildings and cars after Palestinian militants fired at the Gilo Jewish settlement just southwest of Jerusalem.

Bloody clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians are continuing throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip, although their intensity is much less than the first two or three weeks following the outbreak of conflict at the end of September.

During the last six weeks, around 200 Palestinians were killed, while over 6,000 others wounded in the clashes, which were triggered by a provocative visit by Israel's right-wing opposition Likud party leader Ariel Sharon to a disputed shrine in East Jerusalem, a holy site revered by both Jews and Muslims.
