China Spreads AIDS Prevention Knowledge Among PublicThe Central People's Broadcasting Station has presented a program to spread information about AIDS prevention to the public from November 12 to December 1 this year.
The 20-day program is designed to be broadcast through dialogue and by taking phone calls on a hotline manned by several AIDS experts.
Titling "Medicine Consultation Platform," the special program is jointly sponsored by the broadcasting station and the United Nations' Children's Fund (UNICEF) to mark December 1, this year's World AIDS Day.
Since the first AIDS case was reported in 1985, China has discovered over 20,000 HIV carriers at the end of September this year and 397 AIDS patients have died, Vice Minister of Health Yin Dakui said.
Experts predict that if no effort are taken, China will have over 10 million HIV carriers by the year 2010.
The Chinese government realized that it was necessary to extend health education among public.
