HK Chief Executive to Attend Shenzhen SEZ Ceremony, APEC MeetingTung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will visit Shenzhen Tuesday afternoon to attend a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a government spokesman announced Monday.Later in the afternoon, Tung will leave for Brunei to attend the Eighth Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held on November 15 and 16. The spokesman said the development of the Shenzhen SEZ in the past 20 years has provided enormous business opportunities for Hong Kong. "The increase in economic strength of the region as a whole will in turn provide impetus for Hong Kong's future growth. We should continue to strengthen our economic ties with the mainland," he said. Turning to the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting, the spokesman said that notwithstanding the fact that most regional economies are on a steady path to recovery after the financial crisis, the region has yet to regain fully its previous vibrancy. "Economic leaders will also discuss other key global challenges, including APEC's support for the WTO and an early launch of a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, and review recent developments relating to regional trading arrangements," he said.
