Senior Chinese, Finnish Military Leaders Hold TalksGuo Boxiong, executive deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Ilkka Holo, chief of general staff of the National Defense Forces of Finland Monday in Beijing.Guo, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that the people of China and Finland enjoy traditional friendship and their bilateral ties have been progressing well in various areas since the two countries forged diplomatic relations 50 years ago. The relations between Chinese and Finnish armed forces have also been enhanced, he added. PLA is optimistic about developing relations with the Finnish armed forces and is willing to work with the Finnish side to push the military ties between the two countries to a new high, Guo said. Guo believes Holo's China tour will further the friendly cooperation between the two armed. He also briefed the guest on China's views on current international and regional situation, China's domestic situation and its army building, as well as Chinese government's principled position on the Taiwan issue. Holo said that the Finland-China relations have been developing smoothly in recent years. He said that Finland highly appreciates China's constructive role in international arena. Holo noted that he hopes the two countries will further strengthen their military relations before offering a briefing on the security situation in Europe. Holo and his party started their seven-day official goodwill visit to China last Saturday.
