Cancer Patient's Diary to Hit Shelves

A book based on a cancer patient's diary, which has recorded the emotions of his last days on earth, is being printed and will hit the shelves soon, said Monday's China Daily.

"You have given me all you can, and this book is the only thing I can give you," said Lu Youqing, a cancer patient in Shanghai in the dedication of his book titled "Meeting Death".

After fighting stomach cancer for six years, Lu, the manager of an advertising company, was told in August that he had just three months left to live.

Lu then decided to write a diary and wait for death to come.

Since August 8, Lu has published his diary on a website at www.rongshu.com.cn, and the articles have aroused a lot of reactions.

"Man can neither predict the beginning of his life nor control the end, but what he can do is to peacefully receive death," Lu wrote.

As a bachelor in Chinese literature, Lu had to spend five hours or more each day writing his diary.

"I try to concentrate, but I often feel sudden urges to sleep," he said.

Lu said he hopes his diary can help more people who suffer from cancer.

Doctors said Lu has little time left to see his book hit the shelves.
