China Hopes APEC to Play Role in Pushing WTO to Adopt Balanced Agenda for New Talks

China Sunday expressed the hope that APEC will play an active role in pushing WTO (World Trade Organization) to adopt a balanced agenda for the new round of WTO talks.

APEC should play its role in adopting a balanced agenda, reflecting interests of all, particularly the interests of developing member economies, to make the results of the talks conducive to the establishment of a fairer and more open multilateral trading system, Chinese Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Minister Shi Guangsheng said at the APEC ministerial meeting which opened early Sunday.

The Chinese minister said strengthening capacity building is helpful for developing members to be in a better position to participate in the new round of talks and to implement the WTO agreements.

China hopes that APEC develops a set of plans and actively promote technical cooperation among members to help developing members to strengthen their capacity to be involved in the talks and to implement WTO agreements, he said.

He said China is willing to make concerted efforts together with other APEC members to build a high efficient and convenient trade and investment environment as it is of great importance for APEC to work on trade and investment liberalization and facilitation to improve the conditions of trade and business activities in the region.
