China Determined to Fight Against Fake Drugs Nationwide

China's State Drug Administration (SDA) announced Saturday that it will launch a nationwide campaign from now until Spring 2001 to fight against fake drugs and low quality medical apparatus.

The SDA will close down illegal medicine fairs and overhaul businesses which do not have a certificate for selling drugs.

In the first three quarters this year, the SDA sampled 41,964 batches of medicines which were for sale in hospitals and pharmacies, investigated into 276 kinds of drugs and revoked 49 manufacturers' certificates.

However, illegal medicine fairs and pharmacies still exist throughout the country, which greatly disturbs market order and endanger people's health.

In the current campaign, the SDA will also make effort to curb the advertising of fake drugs.

Meanwhile, the SDA vowed to severely punish the makers, wholesalers and retailers of the trade.
