Top Chinese Literary Awards GrantedFour novelists were awarded Saturday the Mao Dun Literature Prize, China's top prize for full-length novels.The awarding ceremony was held in Tongxiang County, in eastern Zhejiang Province, or the hometown of Mao Dun, one of the greatest Chinese writers in the 20th century, One of the prize-winners is "Jueze" (Choose), by novelist Zhang Ping. The novel has since been adapted into a movie, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers. The other three are "Chen'ai Luo Ding" (The End), by A Lai, "Chang Hen Ge" (The Ode of Endless Hatred), by Wang Anyi, and "Charen Sanbuqu" (A Trilogy on Charen). Jin Binghua, one of the heads of the Chinese Writers' Association, said that the four prize-winners represent the most outstanding creativity in novel composition in recent years. The Mao Dun Literature Prize, bestowed every four years, was launched in 1981. This year's prize-winners have been selected among 2,000 literature works published between 1995-98. |
