Second Seeds Crashes in Men's Singles

Second seed and home favorite Zhu Weilun crashed out of the men's singles semi-finals at the World Junior Badminton Championships on November 10 in Guangzhou.

Zhu, the 18-year-old Guangzhou native, lost to Indonesia's fifth seed Song Dwi Kuncoro 7-3, 3-7, 7-2, 7-1.

"He (Zhu) was too nervous on the court," said Chen Xingdong, head coach of the Chinese junior squad. "He gave a performance well below his par."

Kuncoro will meet Malaysia's ninth seed Lee Chong Wei, who dismissed unseeded Ardi Ardiansah of Indonesia in straight sets.

Top-seeded Asian junior titlist Lin Dan recorded a 8-6, 5-7, 7-5, 7-2 victory over his teammate Xuan Chuan to set up an all-Chinese semi-final with fourth seed Bao Chunlai, who came from two sets down to squeeze past sixth-seeded Thai Jakrapan Thanathiratham, 5-7, 4-7, 7-3, 7-1, 7-3.

In women's singles, Yu-Chin Chien of Chinese Taipei beat China's Zhu Lin in the first quarter-final match before Yu Jin, Wei Yan and Wang Rong, seeded first, second and third respectively, secured their berths in the last four in three other all-Chinese quarter-finals.
