China Sedans to Have Electronic Navigation Systems

Tianjin-Toyota Automotive Corp.'s two new 2002 family sedans, Vitz and Plaze, may be equipped with electronic navigation systems, said industry insiders at the Sino-Japan Exhibition of New Products for Automobile Electronic Navigation.

Experts say that if the plan goes ahead, it will be the first time that sedans made in China can be navigated electronically.

At the exhibition, Toyota Japan gave 100 experimental products to Chinese government agencies for raising the awareness of users about the system. The Beijing electronic map will eventually be expanded to cover the entire administrative territory of Beijing and test-marketed in Beijing starting next year.

After that, within legal geographic boundaries, electronic maps for major cities and developed areas will be conceived and put on the market.

Personnel from Toyota Japan said at the exhibition that adding electronic navigation systems to Vitz and Plaze would not affect the sales prices of the new models.
