Zhujiang Delta to Help Underdeveloped Areas

Guangdong provincial government hopes businesses in the rich Zhujiang Delta will help the underdeveloped northern mountainous areas.

The provincial government announced Friday that it plans to organize an economic consultation meeting between the Zhujiang Delta areas and the mountainous regions late this month in Qingyuan.

The government encouraged businesses in economically developed areas to help their poorer counterparts to adjust their economic structure and upgrade industries.

A total of 50 counties in mountainous regions, which takes up 66 percent of Guangdong's land, account for less than 20 percent of the province's gross domestic product.

Chen Shanru, chief of the provincial economic and trade commission, estimated that more than 3,000 enterprises throughout the province will participate in the proposed consultation.
