Top Seeded Chinese Reach Mixed Doubles Semi-finals

Top seeds and Asian junior champions Zheng Bo and Wei Yili reached the mixed doubles semi-finals at the World Junior Badminton Championships Friday in Guangzhou.

The Chinese duo, who had not dropped one set before the quarter-finals, overcame seventh-seeded Chia-Hsin Tsai and Wen-Hsing Cheng from Chinese Taipei 7-2, 7-2, 1-7, 7-3.

They will vie for a spot in the final with South Korea's sixth seeds Lee Jae Jin and Hwang Yu Mi, who rallied past Chinese fourth seeds Zhang Zhijie and Zhang Zhibo 3-7, 7-2, 7-4, 7-0 for the semi-finals.

Third-seeded Zhang Weihong and Zhao Tingting, also of China, struggled before falling to Indonesian pair Hendra A Gunawan and Lita Nurlita, seeded fifth, 7-5, 3-7, 7-5, 1-7, 7-5.

Monwat Thuwanimitkul and Sathinee Chankrachangwong of Thailand, the only unseeded shuttlers in the quarter-finals who upset eighth-seeded South Koreans Chung Jae Sung and Kim So Yeon on Thursday, failed to continue their run of form when they lost to second seed Sang Yawen and Zheng Bo from China in straight sets.
