CSCO Further Develops Pacific, Asia-Europe Routes
China Shipping Corporation (CSCO), one of China's three largest shipping companies, will put 13 new ships into operation on Pacific and Asia-Europe routes in the next two to three years.
According to the China Shipping Weekly, five of the 13 ships will be leased from foreign companies, and the rest will be built in China. Each of the ships will have a handling capacity of 5,600 TEU (twenty feet equivalent unit) containers.
CSCO plans to start using the leased vessels on the Pacific route at the end of this year.
Shipyards in Dalian and Shanghai have received CSCO's orders to build the eight ships, which are expected to be completed and put into use on the Asia-North Europe route by 2003.
