Shanghai Exports Reach US$50 Billion in 10 MonthsExports from Shanghai between January and October exceeded US$50 billion, the largest amount in recent years, according to Shanghai Customs.Latest statistics show that the import and export volume in the city reached US$89.011 billion in the first ten months, with an increase of 48.3 percent or US$12.861 billion over the whole of 1999. The import volume reached US$38.609 billion, increasing 56.8 percent over the same period of last year. The export volume reached US$50.402 billion, increasing 42.3 percent. In the first ten months of the year, state-owned enterprises exported US$24.931 billion of goods overseas, with an annual increase of 35.9 percent. The export of general commodities reached US$27.956 billion, with an annual growth of 50.6 percent; the export of electromechanical products reached US$20.465 billion, with a growth of 48.1 percent; and exports from foreign-invested enterprises reached US$22.49 billion, with a growth of 44.2 percent.
