Maintain a Long-term and Healthy Sino-Japanese Friendship: Premier Zhu

Premier Zhu Rongji expressed his hope that the Chinese and Japanese peoples should further deepen understanding and enhance mutual trust to maintain a long-term and healthy development of friendship between the two.

Zhu made the remarks when meeting with a delegation headed by Shinichi Hakozhima, president of Asahi Shimbun, on November 9 in Zhongnanhai, the Chinese government compound.

As to the recent visit to Japan, Zhu said the meeting with Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori and other political figures and especially the direct contact with Japanese citizens had given him a deep impression.

Bai Keming, President of People's Daily and Yu Ning, deputy editor-in-chief were present on the occasion.
