Angolan President Hails Housing Project by Chinese Constructors

Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos expressed here on Thursday his satisfaction with the housing project newly accomplished by Chinese constructors with the support of the Chinese government.

During a handover ceremony held on Thursday in Viana, a satellite city of the capital Luanda, dos Santos called the completion of the housing project a masterpiece, encouraging further cooperation between construction companies of the two countries.

At the function, Angola's Minister of Public Works and Urbanism Antonio Henriques da Silva said the housing project supported by the Chinese government will help the Angolan people overcome difficulties and resolve some social problems.

The 13.5 million U.S. dollars project, undertaken by China's Jiangsu Economic-Technological Cooperation Company, consists of 195 well-designed cottages with a total area of 15,197 square meters, together with 17,370 square meters of asphalt-concrete roads, drainage systems and power supply facilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Angola Jiang Yuande reviewed the two countries' cooperation in the construction of the housing estate, saying the completion of the Viana Housing Project represents reinforced cooperation between the two countries.

The Chinese government supports the Angolan government's efforts in defending its national independence and its efforts bent on national reconstruction, the ambassador said.

Others attending the ceremony are Angolan Planning Minister Ana Dias Lourenco, Minister of Education and Culture Antonio Burity da Silva and some other high-ranking officials.
