Li Peng Meets Finnish Justice Minister Johanne Koskinen

Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met November 9 with Johanne Koskinen, minister of justice of Finland.

Li extended a warm welcome to Koskinen and gave high evaluation to the bilateral ties they have already formed. China appreciates Finland's efforts in promoting friendship with China and is willing to push forward such a friendship through concerted efforts, Li said.

The top legislator also briefed the guests on the building of democracy and the legal system, saying with the development of the socialist market economy, China's democratic and legal systems have also been reinforced. He cited the fact that a series of laws and regulations have been issued and it has become a key task to guarantee an effective implementation of law.

Koskinen said he had reached a consensus with the Chinese side during the current visit that cooperation in the judicial field should be expanded, adding that Finland is willing to make efforts to this end.

Koskinen is visiting China at the invitation of the Ministry of Justice of China.
