Macao SAR Chief Executive Delivers Policy AddressEdmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), began to deliver his policy address for 2001 at 3:00 p.m. November 9 at the Macao Legislative Council.It is his second policy address since Ho became chief executive of the Macao SAR in December 1999. The policy address is divided into two major parts, which respectively sum up the work of the SAR government over the past 11 months and expound the overall administrative policies for the year 2001, according to a written version of the policy address distributed among the reporters. The first part states that the SAR government has been operating well and carried out its administrative responsibilities, together with improved civil service, stable social order, good law-enforcement, tougher anti-corruption efforts and promising signs of economic recovery. In the second part, the policy address notes that "steady development" will remain the fundamental strategy for the year to come. Specifically, economic environment will be improved, administrative efficiency will be raised, employment will be strengthened to relieve poverty, and science and education will be promoted to enhance Macao's competitiveness. In particular, the policy address notes that the SAR government will rely on the concerted efforts of the Macao residents in the course of building a better future.
