Motorola, China Quest Join Hands to Provide WAP Geographic Information Services

Motorola and China Quest recently reached an agreement to jointly develop a wireless application protocol (WAP) geographic information system for China and the Asia-Pacific region.

China Quest's first collaboration with a mobile communication service provider will for the first time produce handset-positioning systems in Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

It will launch an electronic mapping-technology pilot project in these cities at the same time. WAP handset users in these trial cities can search for road directions and business distribution at any time.

During the recently concluded Shenzhen High-Tech Fair, Motorola and China Quest announced the results of their cooperation to match handset-positioning systems with urban electronic maps.

China Quest specially designed a detailed electronic floor map of the fair exhibition hall, which was put through Motorola's general packet radio service (GPRS) system. Fair participants enjoyed immediate information services via their GPRS and WAP handsets.
