Macao Hosts Asia Meeting of World Trade Center Association

A grand ceremony was held November 8 at the Macao Cultural Center to mark the opening of the Asia regional meeting of the World Trade Center Association (WTCA).

As Asia will play a bigger role in the world in the 21st century, it is the first time that a regional meeting for WTCA members in Asian countries and regions is held.

Participants to the three-day meeting will discuss the better operation of world trade centers in Asia and work out new strategies for future development.

Antonio Leca da Veiga Paz, president of the WTC Macao, said that the process of economic globalization is unequal and benefits certain countries with better competitive advantages, while harming the interests of some other countries.

"In the scope of WTCA, we have established the association and guaranteed its development on the basis of common goals," he said, adding that it is right the time to find better internal operation of the association.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, attended the opening ceremony which was followed by dancing performances presented by local children.
