It Makes No Difference Who Wins U.S. Presidency: Mubarak

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Wednesday that it makes no difference for him no matter who wins the U.S. presidential election, Egypt's Middle East News Agency reported.

"The result is still being calculated, but it's the same to me whether George W. Bush or Al Gore" wins the U.S. presidency, the news agency quoted Mubarak as saying.

Mubarak, whose country is a close U.S. ally in the Middle East, said that no matter who becomes the next U.S. president, he expects the new American administration will make efforts to bring the Middle East peace process back to normal.

The U.S. held the presidential election on Tuesday, but so far, it is still unclear who has won the race, which was too close to call.

Nearly six weeks of bloody clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protestors have left some 180 Palestinians dead and more than 5,000 others wounded.

The worst violence in years has undermined the hope of the Palestinian-Israeli peace process to reach a breakthrough in the near future.
