Guangxi to Invest in Infrastructure Facilities on Sino-Vietnamese BorderSouth China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will spend 1.066 billion yuan (about 128 million $US) in construction of more than 20,000 infrastructure projects near the Sino-Vietnamese border. The projects, involving transportation, education, public health, culture, postal services, water and power supply, radio and TV communication facilities, are scheduled for completion in two years. Guangxi shares a 637-km border with Viet Nam and has an ethnic minority population of 2.42 million featuring diverse ethnic groups. Less-developed infrastructure has seriously limited the economic development in Guangxi, especially at the border region. The per-capita gross domestic product (GDP) last year was 4,260 yuan (about 513 $US) in Guangxi. Cao Bochun, Secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, said he hoped that the improved infrastructure would help promote poverty relief work, raise the living standards of people at the border, and advance economic progress in this southern Chinese region.
