West Region to Send 10 Million Kilowatts of Electricity to Guangdong

A west-east electricity transmission project, which involves Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Three Gorges area, will send 10 million kilowatts of electricity to Guangdong Province, south China, during the 2001-2005 period.

According to a meeting on the project held in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizou province, five 500,000-volt alternating and direct current lines with a combined transmission capacity of around 10 million kilowatts, and three power stations in Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, with a combined installed capacity of 7 million kilowatts, will be constructed to guarantee the electricity transmission to Guangdong, a major economic powerhouse of China.

The meeting was co-sponsored by the State Development Planning Commission and the China State Power Corporation.
