China Draws Attention of International Insurers

China, in particular, Shanghai, has a very important position in the Asia development plans of many international insurance companies, said a French insurer.

China has a huge potential insurance market, which provides many business opportunities to insurance companies, said Antoine Jeancourt-Galignani, chairman and chief executive officer of Assurance Generales De France, during a recent visit to Shanghai.

Jeancourt-Galignani also director of Germany-based Allianz Group, is a member of the International Business Leader Adviser Council for the Mayor of Shanghai.

"We hope to bring our insurance experience to Shanghai, which is on the way to becoming a world financial center," Jeancourt-Galignani added.

Allianz opened its business in China in 1917 and has had representative offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

It jointly established the Allianz-Dazhong Life Insurance Co. Ltd. in Shanghai in 1998 with Shanghai's Dazhong Insurance Company.
