US President-elect Urged to Promote Sino-US Ties

China hopes the US president-elect, whoever he will be, will take a farsighted view of relations with China from a statesman's perspective and dedicate to promoting the healthy and stable development of Sino-US relations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the remarks at the press conference on November 7 in response to a relevant question.

Zhu said the healthy and stable ties between China and the United States, two important nations in the world, are in line with the long-term interests of the two countries and will meet the requirements of peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region as well as in the world.

Zhu said, whoever is to be the president-elect, China hopes he will take a farsighted view of relations with China, dedicate to maintain the healthy and stable development of such relations, and in particular, handle the Taiwan issue properly by conforming to all the principles set in the three joint communiques between China and the United States as well as the relevant commitments made by the US government in that regard.

The spokesman said China is willing to make joint efforts with the new president in boosting Sino-US relations on the basis of the three joint communiques.
