Sichuan Province Cuts Number of Video Games Rooms

Southwest China's Sichuan Province has cut the number of video game arcades from 7,652 to 2,603 in an effort to create a good social environment for teenagers.

Government departments at all levels have launched a three-month special campaign to control the video game machines throughout Sichuan and eventually close all of such arcades.

The campaign is conducted by the local cultural departments,

administrations for industry and commerce, press and publication departments, and public security departments.

A survey conducted by the Sichuan Provincial Committee for Protecting minors indicates that 85 percent people think the video games are detrimental to the growth of youngsters, and that playing video games greatly damages youngsters' health.
