CPPCC Chairman Meets Senior Chinese Officials in HK

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), held a meeting Monday in Hong Kong with heads of central government's institutions and mainland-funded enterprises in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Li, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, expressed the hope at the meeting that they will fulfill the trust of the Party and the Chinese people and work harder to maintain the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.

Li said that Hong Kong plays a vital role in China's reform, opening-up and modernization drive as an important bridge linking the Chinese mainland to the rest of the world.

To maintain the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong is the needs of the reform, opening-up and modernization drive, and is the interests and desire of all the Chinese people, he pointed out.

He noted that all the central government's institutions and the mainland-funded enterprises in Hong Kong must operate strictly in accordance with the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law.

They must resolutely support the work of the Hong Kong SAR government headed by Tung Chee Hwa in order to make their support a positive element for Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, he said.

Li also praised the heads of the central government's institutions and mainland-funded enterprises in Hong Kong for their contributions in carrying out policies of the central governments in Hong Kong and promoting the economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland in the past three years.

He hoped that they will make continuous efforts and strive for greater achievements in the future.
