Efforts Urged to Expedite China's WTO Entry

China voiced the hope on November 7 that the on-going consultations within the China Working Group of the WTO in Geneva would be productive so as to expedite China's entry into the organization.

The 13th round of consultation of the working group started November 6 in Geneva and a Chinese delegation headed by Chief Negotiator Long Yongtu attended the consultation, which has beeb both "positive and constructive" so far, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao at today's routine press conference.

The current consultation, which is now going on, mainly focuses on the stipulation of multi-lateral agreements and reports of the working group, Zhu said.

China is still conducting negotiations with Mexico, the last country with which China must reach a bilateral deal before it joins the 139-nation bloc after 14 years of effforts.

China's WTO entry has entered into the final stage and it is now busily making preparations for fulfilling all commitments upon entry, the spokesman said.
