CPPCC Chairman Meets Hong Kong Noted Figures

Li Ruihuan Meets Hong Kong Noted Figures
Li Ruihuan, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said on November 7 in Hong Kong that only if Hong Kong maintains united, stable and prosperous, can it make greater and more contribution to China's reunification and rejuvenation.

Li said this when meeting with some 150 Hong Kong noted figures Tuesday morning in accompany with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

He said the situations following Hong Kong's return to the motherland go better than he expected.

The achievement of Hong Kong is undoubtedly due to the resolute support of the central government, the effective work of the SAR government, the concerted efforts of six million Hong Kong people, as well as the important role played by those noted figures, he said.

Li said China's development and rejuvenation require consistent promotion of fine traditions of the Chinese nation, especially harmony and unity.

The Tenth Five-Year Plan on national economy and social progress has drawn up the blueprint of the national development in the coming century, he said, adding that it will be conducive to China's economic and social progress and will offer new opportunities for Hong Kong's prosperity and development.

He voiced the hope that the noted figures in Hong Kong will as always support the development of the nation and Hong Kong, and thus build up their career.
