Urban/Rural Gap Deepened in China

Deepened urban/rural economic gap has been seen in China, according to statistics released by the State Statistic Bureau.

In the past three quarters this year, urban residents' disposable income showed an 8.4% increase to a per-capita amount of RMB$4719 yuan while a mere per-capita sum of RMB$1,500 yuan, 2.5% up, was registered by the rural populace.

Farmers' per-capita income was only 30% that of urban, a fact mainly caused by their migrant move seeking for temporary jobs in cities, being given no great chance for big per-capita increases in income in the rural areas. A slow consumption growth was consequently noted in rural China though it has the greatest market potential to be exploited.
