Rodin's Recast Thinker to be Sold in China

A recast of "The Thinker," the world-famous sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin, will be sold in China at a price of no less than one million U.S. dollars.

Rodin was an influential sculptor of the late 19th and early 20th century.

According to Cheng Xindong, director with the France Gallery Asian Department, the cast, now sitting part of an exhibit at the Shanghai Art Exhibition, is the ninth cast made by the Rodin Museum in 1998.

Rodin supervised the cast-making of six of the statues. Later, the Rodin Museum decided to cast another 25 sculptures.

The first eight casts by the museum have been sold to galleries or museums in the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Israel.
