Almost 800 Graduates of Civilian Universities Join Army

A total of 786 graduates from civilian universities and colleges were officially recruited into the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Monday after three months of training.

Of the total, 16 percent are holders of masters' degrees or doctorates, while women account for 35.8 percent, according to PLA sources.

Since 1991, the PLA has recruited over 40,000 non-cadets, including masters and doctors.

The PLA Headquarters of General Staff has alone accepted over 6,200 of these non-military academy graduates over the decade.

So far, over 500 of the graduates have been rewarded by the state and the army for their technical achievements, while over 250 of them have received military awards for their meritorious deeds.
